Tesla Motors is once again selling the initial Model S electric car with a 60 kWh battery. In the model range of the American brand, such a modification has been since 2012, but last year it was discontinued. However, now it comes with an updated design, costs $3,900 less than the pre-reform version, and is offered with optional autopilot and a higher-capacity battery.
Tesla Motors already has over 370,000 pre-orders for the Model 3, with a starting price of $35,000, scheduled to be delivered to customers by the end of 2017. Until then, however, the Californian company needs to sell other cars that remain expensive even by American standards, especially in top-end modifications with large-capacity batteries and various options. “We've received a lot of inquiries from people who want to buy the Model S but can't afford it because of the high cost,” the automaker said in a statement.
A new rear-wheel-drive Model S 60 costs $66,000 in the US (before government compensation). At the same time, the power reserve is 337 km, acceleration from 0 to 96 km / h takes 5.5 seconds, and the maximum speed is limited to 209 km / h. There is also an all-wheel drive version of the 60D for $71,000, and by paying $9,000 you can "unlock" the full capacity of the batteries - 75 kWh, after which the range will increase by another 19%. This option, as well as autopilot (for $3,000), is offered for both mono- and all-wheel drive variants. They promise to deliver the first cars to buyers in July.
The updated Tesla Model S has fully LED adaptive headlights, and the black strip imitating a false radiator grille has shrunk to a minimum size. A cabin HEPA filter appeared, which, according to Tesla representatives, is ten times larger than its counterparts in other cars. In addition, ventilated front seats were added to the options list, as well as two new types of interior decoration with woodgrain inserts: Dark Ash and Figured Ash.
The information that the updated Model S will receive a top modification with batteries with a capacity of 100 kWh has not been confirmed. At the top of the line is still the P90D version with 90 kWh batteries and two 503 hp electric motors. and 259 hp The mileage of such an electric car is 500 kilometers, acceleration from 0 to 96 km / h takes 2.8 seconds. However, the company also said that upgraded chargers will be installed on the restyled Model S, thanks to which the Superchargers will charge a little faster.
