Tesla's first crossover, the Tesla Model X, is built on a liftback platform. Model S. The two models have a similar style, interior design, as well as power plants and their characteristics. However, the Model X is a completely different EV, with features such as the Falcon Wings rear doors that open upwards (allowing them to be opened in tight parking spaces) and a huge windshield that creates the effect of a panoramic roof. At the same time, the new SUV is capable of towing a trailer weighing up to 2,270 kg, as well as carrying cargo in the rear and front trunks.

During the presentation of the Model X at the Tesla plant in Fremont, California, the head of the company, Elon Musk, emphasized the high level of safety of the off-road vehicle. The novelty, like the Model S, has heavy lithium-ion batteries placed under the floor, so the electric car has a low center of gravity and is difficult to turn over. There is no internal combustion engine under the hood and in its place there are power elements of the body that receive the full impact force in a frontal collision. In addition, the novelty is equipped with an antibacterial filter of the climate system, described as "The system of bacteriological protection for all occasions, including possible scenarios of the apocalypse."

Top versions of the Model X with all-wheel drive and a 90 kWh battery were the first to go on sale. The 90D version is equipped with two 259-horsepower motors (330 Nm each) located on the axles. It accelerates from 0 to 96 km / h in 4.8 seconds and is capable of driving up to 413 km from one charge.

The high-performance version of the P90D received a 259-horsepower (330 Nm) engine at the front and 503-horsepower (600 Nm) at the rear. Such an electric car accelerates to 96 km / h in 3.8 s in standard mode or 3.2 s in the “ridiculous” Ludicrous Speed, and is also designed for a maximum speed of 250 km / h. The power reserve in this case is limited to 402 km.

Tesla explained that such a significant range was partly due to the “lowest drag coefficient of any production SUV”, equal to 0.24. In addition, the Model X is equipped with an active rear spoiler that extends automatically at high speeds. 

The equipment list of the new electric crossover includes a keyless entry system, electric and heated mirrors, LED headlights, a navigation system that calculates the route, taking into account the possibility of recharging at branded stations (works in the USA and Europe), collision avoidance systems and monitoring "blind" zones. The crossover is available with white, beige and black interiors, as well as six- and seven-seat versions. At the same time, the third row of seats folds down and forms a flat shelf.  

The Tesla Model X Signature was the first to be put on the conveyor. This version went to customers who, even before the start of mass production, pre-ordered a new product. The car is equipped with a fully electric power plant with two motors on the axles: 259-horsepower at the front and 503-horsepower at the rear. They receive electricity from batteries with a capacity of 90 kWh. Such a crossover is capable of accelerating from 0 to 96 km / h in 3.8 seconds, and the maximum speed is limited to 250 km / h. At the same time, the power reserve of the model is 386 kilometers.

The basic equipment of the Signature version includes air suspension, the control electronics of which can “remember” the selected settings in accordance with GPS coordinates, keyless entry, automatic valet parking and heated and ventilated leather seats. In addition, there is a second row of seats with three seats that are independently adjustable, as well as a third row of seats that folds flush with the floor.

The list of new options includes a towbar and a trailer towing assistance system (the maximum permitted weight is 2.3 tons), a heated steering wheel, an additional row of rear seats, as well as a special driving mode Ludicrous Mode (“Ridiculous Mode”) for a surcharge of 10 thousand dollars. When the latter is activated, the acceleration time from standstill to 96 km / h is reduced to 3.2 seconds.

The US-spec Tesla Model X is produced at Tesla's head office in Fremont, California, USA. Cars for Europe are assembled from American car kits at a plant in the Netherlands. "Europeans" differ from "Americans" in lighting technology, chargers and software.
